WRAP UP TRIDENT – 24 JANUARY, 12.00 – 3.00 pm

TAKING THE PEACE SCARF TO PARLIAMENT, LONDON.

Following from the Wool Against Weapons link-up between AWE Aldermaston and Burghfield on Nagasaki Day, many people wanted to re-use the peace scarf at Parliament before it was turned into blankets.

In response, Action AWE and CND, with Wool Against Weapons’ support, are organising a mass demo in London on Saturday 24 January 2015, from 12.00 to 3.00 pm. The demo will link the peace scarf from the Palace of Westminster, along the Embankment past Portcullis House and the MoD, up Horse Guards Ave, down Whitehall past Downing Street, the MoD and Foreign Office, with a rally in Parliament Sq.

The demo will send a message to the government and MPs: SCRAP TRIDENT AND BAN ALL NUCLEAR WEAPONS. People’s Needs not Nuclear Weapons. There will be placards on ‘NHS not Trident’, ‘Jobs not Trident’, ‘Climate not Trident’. The rally will hear from activists, anti-Trident MPs, trade union and faith leaders, as well as some great music.

We have a lot of peace scarf stored in different places, so bring what you have and we’ll do the rest. Whether or not you have peace scarf to bring, get involved, organise a bus from your town and bring your friends and neighbours. Bring local group and union banners and placards.

With the ‘Main Gate’ decision on Trident replacement scheduled for 2016 and just months before the election, make our voices heard for peace and disarmament. Help us make this the biggest nuclear disarmament demo London has seen since the 1980s.

CND is mobilising coaches and activists to come from all over the country. Contact Rebecca (demo coordinator) on [email protected]. More info also from [email protected] or phone O20 770 2393.
We have to send a clear message to MPs: Trident must be scrapped, not replaced.

Let’s meet people’s real needs. Cut Trident - not jobs, health or education.

“Spending £100 billion on replacing Trident is a catastrophic folly. I’m sure I am one of many who support the those, like Action-AWE, who campaign actively and imaginatively against it”

– Ken Loach

John Hurt

".....the government has pledged to rebuild a new generation of British nuclear weapons at enormous cost and at a time when social services budgets including those for health and education are being drastically cut. Having nuclear weapons doesn't make us safer, it just brings the possibility of nuclear conflict ever closer. We need to protect this planet not put it at even more risk of destruction. We all have a voice so please use yours and join me in supporting ACTION AWE." John Hurt
