“I want to report a crime: they’re building weapons of mass destruction just down the road”

The idea of going into a police station and saying "I want to report a crime and that crime is mass murder" seemed at first quite cringe-making - totally against my upbringing in the traditions of British reserve! But it also seemed a fascinating Alice-in-Wonderland thing to do. ( I have done a bit of street theatre before with the peace movement, with CAAT providing the props of toy bombs and bullets and cs gas…

A GOOD DAY IN READING TO REPORT CRIMINAL INTENT

by George Farebrother On Saturday Reading seemed so normal and decent. An eclectic mix of styles with some nice historic bits and proper unpredictable English weather. Sharp driving hailstorms with sunny spring-like intervals. People were going about their lawful business; and our business was explicitly lawful The response of the Thames Valley police to our mass crime reporting echoed this normalcy. In a sense this was theatre as we and they played out our pre-arranged…

Crime Reporting in Reading by Wendy Lewis

Crime Reporting in Reading by Wendy Lewis

If Cameron thinks the campaign against nuclear weapons is over, he can think again. We set off in our minibus, full to bursting with singers eager to take part in the latest action against Trident; a mass crime reporting at Reading Police Station, near the sites at Burghfield and Aldermaston where nuclear warheads are developed and tested. The sight of flooded fields and swollen rivers almost lapping the motorway near Reading was a shocking reminder…

Reporting a crime: Details of Reading police station visit & thoughts on progressing the case.

The Reporting of Crime at Reading police station went really well despite the cold and frequent rain and hail showers which however were interspersed with sunny interludes. “Spending £100 billion on replacing Trident is a catastrophic folly. I’m sure I am one of many who support the those, like Action-AWE, who campaign actively and imaginatively against it”

– Ken Loach

John Hurt

".....the government has pledged to rebuild a new generation of British nuclear weapons at enormous cost and at a time when social services budgets including those for health and education are being drastically cut. Having nuclear weapons doesn't make us safer, it just brings the possibility of nuclear conflict ever closer. We need to protect this planet not put it at even more risk of destruction. We all have a voice so please use yours and join me in supporting ACTION AWE." John Hurt
