Supporters of Reading Peace Group had an early start to the day, heading down to the Atomic Weapons Establishment at Burghfield to conduct a morning peace vigil to greet AWE staff as they turned up for work - our local contribution to the Marchmonth of action. We set up at the Burghfield Road entrance to The Mearings lane which leads to the main gate, by the checkpoint which has been set up by police to control access to the gate. Although we had more banners than people present, the morning was a success - we attracted quite a bit of attention from passing drivers and, of course, all AWE staff entering the site had a reminder of the opposition to nuclear weapons as they began the week at work.

Nuclear weapons crime in the UK has been reported to Thames Valley Police.
