As a Non-Violent Direct Action campaign concerned with ending the production and use of nuclear weapons, Action AWE also recognises the importance of all aspects of peaceful and non-violent resistance to nuclear weapons, not least letter writing campaigns and other dialogue with MPs and officials. We encourage a variety of non-arrestable ‘Fluffy Protest’ here, and you can look at some examples of how you might compose a letter to your MP here.
In addition to taking direct action, Action AWE urges its members and supporters to engage with their MPs and other representatives to ensure the public’s rejection of nuclear weapons is understood and acted on by decision makers.
The website ‘Nuclear Weapons: Write ’em off!’ has been set up to aid and support letter writing campaigns and is an invaluable resource for anyone looking for ideas, knowledge and contact details. The website aims are as stated below:
“Our aim is to provide a service tailored to your experience, on an individual basis, of corresponding with MPs, officials and government ministers
It is important that as many people as possible keep writing letters to MPs, MEPs and the Government about nuclear weapons. This is a very useful way to broadcast our concerns and influence those in power.
But we all get replies which do anything but respond to the questions we have put, or palm us off with the same tired and groundless old arguments.
CND and World Court Project UK are forming a Correspondence Support Network to help our letters to be more effective, and to exchange ideas. We hope you will consider becoming (or continue to be) a letter writer for a more just and peaceful World without nuclear weapons.”
Action AWE would like to receive news and updates from letter writers so we can share information and responses to letters sent. Please see our Contact Page for details of where to send your ‘correspondence news’!
