Crimestoppers! Join Action AWE to report the UK’s WMD: Reading city centre, 8 February 2014
Trident missiles are the UK’s very own Weapons of Mass Destruction, and preparing for mass destruction is preparing to commit a crime against humanity.
On 8 February in Reading Action AWE will be holding a mass crime reporting action: we’re asking people to come to Reading police station and queue up to report the crime of preparing for Trident renewal.

Green Women Go to Aldermaston
Green Party leader Natalie Bennett and other Green Women demonstrated at Aldermaston and toured Burghfield on Sunday 12 January, promising to do return actions with many more Greens in the coming year. Report here!
Raising Voices in Basingstoke
In November a medley of political choirs gathered to entertain and enlighten the Saturday shoppers of Basingstoke. The rain held off and enthusiasm kept everyone warm (just about). Contact the choirs for songsheets if you want to borrow a tune and get rehearsing before your next action!

Christmas Farmers Market visitors in Knighton got a chance to hear about Trident and Action AWE resistance in December, and the event made the local paper too.

Latest news from Wool Against Weapons is that 9 August is confirmed date for the Big Event, unrolling the scarf between Aldermaston and Burghfield AWE. Meanwhile the global knitfest continues apace, with knit-ins around the world – according to these pictures!
In January Sheffield’s Banks Arts Centre took part, Manchester’s People’s Museum got in touch to record this people’s event for posterity, and we heard talk of Gateshead knitters planning to knit the Angel of the North’s wingspan (52 metres!) and Edinburgh knitters eyeing up the Royal Mile (er, 1 mile!) 2,000 pieces completed so far… So get your needles out and join in.

Skilling Up for Action!
Action AWE has held three nonviolent direct action training days in Bradford, Sheffield and London (women-only) over the last few months, with lots of new people getting involved. We have upcoming training dates in London (1st February) and Leeds (8th March) – if you would like to host a training then get in touch! Women-only training days are also possible, with women trainers.

Nuclear Information Service is calling for an in-depth enquiry into reports that police at Aldermaston & Burghfield have been slacking on the job, making safety claims by AWE a little dubious to say the least. And last year, the Health & Safety Executive released a pretty shocking report into the 2010 fire at AWE.
