4th Knighton Knit in at Christmas Farmers Market

Knighton_Knit_in

Knighton Action for Peace and Justice held their 4th Knit-in in support
of Action AWE on Saturday 14th December. It was held at the Knighton
Community Centre during the Christmas Farmers Market. Loads of people
swarmed around the stalls including ours, signing our anti-Trident
petition and trying their hand at knitting. Around 9 people knitted the
whole morning and also attempted to teach 2 men who had never knitted
before. One ran off after casting on a few stitches, saying he would
practice at home but the other persevered and completed 3 rows. Several
people dropped by with lengths they had knitted which were quickly sewn
on to the growing roll. At noon we took the roll onto the stage and
posed for a picture - then we took the roll outside and held it up to see
how long it was - 53 metres. So we are pretty much half-way to our
target of 110 metres. Hurray!

All pics from the day……..

“Spending £100 billion on replacing Trident is a catastrophic folly. I’m sure I am one of many who support the those, like Action-AWE, who campaign actively and imaginatively against it”

".....the government has pledged to rebuild a new generation of British nuclear weapons at enormous cost and at a time when social services budgets including those for health and education are being drastically cut. Having nuclear weapons doesn't make us safer, it just brings the possibility of nuclear conflict ever closer. We need to protect this planet not put it at even more risk of destruction. We all have a voice so please use yours and join me in supporting ACTION AWE." John Hurt
